Face Coverings
From 24th July 2020, face coverings will become mandatory in shops in England. For the majority of people, this is advisable to prevent transmission of the disease. However there may be a small cohort of people for whom wearing a mask is not possible due to a medical condition or learning disability (for government advice, see here ) We are not able to provide proof of this exemption.
The BMA website says the following:
The Government guidance suggests there is no requirement for evidence for exemption. It should be sufficient for someone to declare that they are eligible for an exemption direct with the person questioning them (eg bus driver).
Practices are therefore not required to provide letters of support for those who fall under the list of exemptions, or to those who do not fall under the list of exemptions.
- Some transport providers are providing evidence of exemptions themselves, see for example this information from First Bus and Arriva.
- Stagecoach buses allow passengers to apply for a Journey Assistance card - applicable to those who are exempt from face coverings. For more information please click here
- Patients with learning disabilities can access cards they can download themselves by clicking here
- There is a downloadable card for patients with asthma available here
- And another for anyone with respiratory problems including COPD available here
If you are coming to the Surgery for an appointment, please ensure you bring a face mask or covering.
