Complying with Information Governance

We ask you for information so that you can receive proper care and treatment.

We keep this information, together with details of your care in your medical record.

We may use some of this information to help us protect the health of the public generally and to see that the NHS runs efficiently, plans for the future, trains its staff and can account for its actions.  Information may also be needed to help educate tomorrow’s clinical staff and to carry out medical and other health research for the benefit of everyone.

Sometimes the law requires us to pass on information: for example, to notify a birth.

Confidentiality Policy

In the event that we should have to correspond with children all post will be addressed to the individual concerned.

Anyone who receives information from us is also under a legal duty to keep it confidential.

General Data Protection Regulation (2018)

This new EU law has principles which build on those of the DPA and require organisations to be transparent about how they process, store, share and manage access to data.

We have produced an information leaflet which summarises how New Dover Road Surgery aim to adhere to the GDPR. Please download it here. Printed copies are also available in the Surgery.

For the purposes of healthcare, we do not need patients' explicit consent to hold and process data, nor to share it with other NHS organisations if there is a specific reason to do so, eg if you have been referred to a hospital for further treatment, we assume we have your implied consent to send them the relevant information about your condition. We would not send them excessive information which is not relevant. We will seek your explicit and written consent if we need to send your data to another 3rd party acting on your behalf such as a solicitor or insurance company. Occasionally we may need to provide aspects of your data to companies on a legal basis such as the DVLA or Police. We will never share your data with other 3rd parties unless it is for the purpose of your healthcare.
